metaphysical pathos

metaphysical pathos
The underlying mood of pessimism expressed in many analyses of large-scale social organizations and bureaucracies in the modern world. There is a sense of fate and vanishing freedom in this perspective, which was captured poignantly by Max Weber in such images as the ‘iron cage of bureaucracy’ and ‘the disenchantment of the world’.
